Hello class! Today's lesson is about monologues! A monologue (or monolog) is an extended uninterrupted speech by a character in a play. The character may be speaking his or her thoughts aloud, directly addressing another character, or speaking to the audience.
Soliloquies, or monologues in which the character is speaking his thoughts (the other characters are unable to hear a soliloquy), can be incredibly important to the plot of a play as they provide a way for characters to express their thoughts without speaking to anyone else. They allow for audiences to better understand characters and plotlines. Therefore, you're going to write one.
It shouldn't be too long, no more than a paragraph or two, but there are some specific guidelines to which you must adhere. Just follow these steps:
1) Pick your favorite book--the best novel you've ever read.
2) Pick your favorite minor character out of that book.
3) Write a speech from the point of view of said character, directed at the antagonist (or, if you absolutely must, protagonist) of the story. It doesn't matter if they don't know each other, just write it.
SO, let's get started! Give it a try. I promise I won't grade too harshly
