What are your opinions on the use of animals in fashion?

I am for it for things like wool, as the sheep need the be sheared to be healthy.

But, I am fully against it with the animals being slaughtered just for people to wear them.

cotton is actually a plant so its out of the question...and sheep just HAVE to be sheared and that grows back soo thats totally fine with me.

Bad:
-Killling beavers, opposums, dears, bears, elk, racoons, jaguars, tigers, lions, manatees, kagaroos, cats, lynx, mountain lion, antelope, manatee, whales and anything else you can think of (p.s. i don't know if we use half of those o.o)

it may be the cycle of life, but that doesn't make sense if we can hunt something to the point of almost being extinct just for clothing.

If the animal was already dead from natural reasons, I think that would be OK too...

But not just line them up and shoot them.

Yeah FUR IS MURDER but thighs like cotton aren't so good for the environment either because it uses so much of our precious water resouces to grow it and all the pesticides they have to use is terrible. USE HEMP

This isn't my personal belief, but for the debate I'll argue against you all. Remember people, this is not what I actually think.


Animals are meant for humans to use. There are so many and they're grown especially for this. Why shouldn't we use them? Its not like their humans anyway.

No I'm not against using animals I mean look at how many people eat meat but many times they are being hunted to extinction becuase of the want for furs. Our population is to huge to sustain something like that.

So I think we shouldn´t use the leather of animals we wouldn´t kill anyway to eat them....I mean we do eat beef, so I think it´s okay to use calf leather....

But I mean what DO they kill for fur? Beavers, ermines, rabbits and so on.
Just because it looks nice?!

Although most of the people know that you can now produce "fur" similar to real fur sythetically they still buy the REAL fur stuff.... *shakes her head*

Well people can get rashes and other things from fake fur.

I never liked the look of fur to begin with so I have to say I am against it. I do agree with Gee that animals are mean t to be used but I also think that we shouldn't abuse it. I think animal fashion is too far

And I think people can get rashes form REAL fur too.
Plus I don´t think it looks nice (when we try to look at the thing form the POV of a fashion designer) I would never buy clothes with real fur on them...

I actually have a coat that has mink fur on the collar but that was my great grandmas so it recycling

Alright, so I'm a vegetarian. I'm going to try not to go into full freak-out here, but pardon me if I do.

Using an animals fur is disgusting and wrong. Think about if for a second, you are wearing an animal. That's like someone shaving your head and sheering off your skin for someone to wear.
Clumsy Cat, you mentioned how we already kill cows for meat, why not use their hide's too. This is a valid point, but still completely disgusting. Why should animals have to be slaughtered so we can eat them, wear them, or sit on them? That's gross. Actually that's beyond gross. They shouldn't have to die in the first place.
Now some people will probably say, 'well if we don't kill them, they'll just become overpopulated and whatnot'. Well, when you force livestock to reproduce, yeah there are going to be a lot of them. That's why you don't force them to reproduce. And in the wild, when one population gets way out of control, over time it will balance itself out. We don't need to interfere. Animals have been doing this for ever.
