Welcome to Lesson 2: Colours!

Now we all know colours [Sorry, sorry Australian spelling ] are very important in making a garment. Will this colour match that cut? Would you have a orange and yellow spotted wooly jumper? No, but if it was a skirt it could work. If it was a maxi length skirt it would look silly, but if it was a mini skirt it would look good.

Colours like black and white can work with anything, so many people use them as base colours in their wardrobe. A pair of shoes or a bag in both black and white.

Although, too much colour can be a bad thing. It confuses the brain, resulting in a distaste for the outfit.

Colours also have to suit certain people's skin tones and hair colours. People with darker skin usually look good in oranges and pinks, whereas people with lighter skin usually look good in purples and blues.

With hair colour I have noticed that most blonde people tend to look very pretty when they are waring green. For people with brown hair, shades of blue look good. For people with black hair purple clothing is appealing.

Task One: Look at the two women below and comment on their attire. Do the colours suit them? Do the style of dress look good with the colour?

If you had a pair of scissors and unlimited hemming how would you improve outfit two?

Sorry! I missed the previous class! I was busy with end of year exams and stuff! So sorry!
Task 1:
Picture 1 - She looks pretty in that dress and the blue goes well with her skin, but maybe the dress itself could've looked better in crimson red or black. The girl's hair colour [I'm Australian] suits the dress also, but could've been better worn in a messy, loose bun with strands hanging out.
Picture 2 - I don't know who this is. The shade of pink on the dress is too bright to match with the woman's skin, which is a pink-ish tan colour. And the entire dress looks like the woman just tied a bedsheet to herself! And crocs don't go well with the formal-ish typed of dress, especially that one. The clutch goes good with the pink, but the colour of it will need to be changed if the dress colour was changed.

Task 2:
I would cut dress 2 into and empire waist dress just above the woman's knees lopsidedly. The dress looks like it's already in layers, so I would cut the skirt to like a pixie skirt.

(1) a. the colour [I'm Australian too ] suits her skin tone though the dress itself is a little too puffy for my taste. The lines make her appear shapeless with no definition.

b. I have to cover my face when I see this dress. One word. Nightmare. Everything from the colour, which is way too bright when paired with a dress the size of a tent, to the cut, somebody give me a pair of sissors, is fashion fopar to the extream. And crocs... kill me now.

(2) Can I cut it to pieces and burn them?
Well I guess I would make it shorter by a lot, put a line of stiches around the waist to give it some shape and if I could (I don't know whats under the first layer) I would take the frount layer off. There really isn't much you could do... buy her some new shoes perhaps.

i did it! task three. i hope it saved properly.

1. (a) She looks very good in that dress, and the bow is a nice touch. I agree with a previous poster [i forget who] that her hair would look much better in a scraggly bun. (b) This makes me want to puke! She actually went out in public like that?!?! I can't believe she wore crocs with that hideous excuse for a dress, but with a fashion sense like that, what would you expect, I guess?

2. I would add a sash, either empire or drop waist, and maybe make it like black (are we allowed to do that?) and add a line of black around the hem, which i would cut short, like to above the knee.

Task 1
Picture 1: (blue)
hm...i like the colour [canadian ] on her and the dress isn't that bad. I think the colour of the dress does go good with her hair. *thinks really had because doesn't know what to say* the bow is okay, just not really me. i woudn't wear that dress.
Picture 2: (pink with crocs)
OMG NO CROCS!!!!! crocs + that dress = BADDD! *wipes forhead* i really don't like anything about that one!!!! the pink goes with her hair but what does it really matter when the dress is terrible!

Task 2
if i could change:
Dress 1 (blue):
i would change the bow (on the front) to the back of the dress. i don't like it just popping out of nowhere like that. ... or i would take it out altogether...
if i took the bow out i would then add a necklace that is white and black and blue. hmm i think then i would make it a bubble dress...that would look pretty good.

Dress One: I think it's adorable. The color is great, it looks really nice with that shade of brown hair. The overall shape and cut of the dress is cute and girly and that light shade of blue reflects this.

Dress Two: This is hideous. She looks like an obese whale, not a supermodel. There is wayto much magenta in that outfit. It's so big and so[i] pink. Plus the [i]pink crocs with socks are disgusting. Crocs in general are horrible and ugly, with socks they are worse. Here, she has a magenta dress with pink shoes, the pinks don't match, and there is already too much pink.

If I could fix the second dress, first I would give it a waist to add some sort of shape to it. I would cut it to just below the knee. Add some fabric so the skirt was layered. The belt or whatever around the waist should be in a contrasting color like dark blue. The shoes should be any color other than pink, navy, or black, and that still look good with the other colors.
