| Guten Tag. I still kinda new in German. My friend and I are like saying a few words of German here and there in school (sadly, they don't teach an extra subjct here; I'm from Malaysia by the way). Just wanna say danke because this whole thing helped me clear up a few things that were confusing me. _________________ Don't you just love Alice? |

| I only know a little bit. I had to learn German last year, so I'm a little fuzzy. Gutentag! (sp?) And Danke! Those are the only two words I remember sadly enough. |

The vowels at first: A is spoken as the "u" in but (but we hold it longer). E... I´m not sure how to explain... I´ll come back for that, maybe you can help me? What does sound like E? I is very different... It´s spoken as your "e" O is pretty similar. More flat in German. U is like the "o" in to.
Now we have the "Umlaute" (meaning they´re more than just one vowel, they have something "around" (um= around... lol), dunno why they came up with that name? They sound just normal.): ä (= ae if you don´t have it on your PC, should you ever find it this way in a German text, it´s the same as ä) is pronounced exactly like the "e" in EDWARD. ö(oe),ü(ue)... Difficult... I don´t see how I can say that now... But I´ll find something, trust me...
V and W... right, they´re not spoken as you would think. V sounds like the "f" in forward but it´s pronounced "Vau" if you want to spell the letter itself (au= sounds as the "ow" in your now, so think "fow" if you want to say "V"...). Now our W: It´s soft somehow. Oh boy... I never thought about how different this is, but it´s fun. How would you say it sounds like, Rosaleen?
At first I think German sounds "harder" than English or French. We have the words more seperated, not as flowing.
I´ll do all the alphabet here with the time, that´s a good idea! If you have problems with homeworks or something... Just ask, you can write me an e-mail too (Honeysanna@gmx.de). I wished I could tell you those things, writing is so much harder... But it´s funny.
Read German books! Really! I´m sure this helps a lot. I read Twilight and NewMoon aloud to practise. My English grades are so much better since I do that. I could help you get some good ones (*cough*books of cause...lol)!
Okay, to say "bye" to you I begin showing you some of those words: Take "tschüss", "bis dann", "bis bald", "bis später", "auf Wiedersehen" or "tschau"(=ciao) ...
Oh, and I do eat "Berliner", by the way, especially now at "Karneval"... They´re just everywhere... Hmmm...
Have you already been in Germany, Felicia? (I´m only German, no % in me ) |
Ok so e is AY and A is ah bay say day ay eff gay ha ee yacht kah el em en o (dont hold it) pay cue air ess tay ooh vay doppelvay eeks oopsilon tset |
um, my alphabet is different to yours...
mine goes; ah beeh tseeh deeh eeh eff geeh hah ee yot kah ell emm enn o peeh kuu air ess teeh ooo fau veeh ix oopsilon tset
