| How about you start with basic expressions and/or words? Like how to greet people and all that =) |

| Oh, I love German! I'm taking that now in school. How about learning about times? As in the words for: Twilight, Day, Night, Evening, etc. _________________ I'm a Librarian. | Yay! I'm 25% German and I always wanted to learn some German. I'm only waiting for a Lithuanian class. =P Oh, and please put pronunciations along with the words. I'm not good at pronunciation. And have you ever had Berliners? They're really good. _________________ The one and only<3 |

| Now that I think about it, you might want to start with the alphabet. That would help with some of the not-so-obvious pronunciations, like the words "von" or "wochenende." As long as you knew how to make the proper "v" and "w" sounds, you could pronounce those pretty easily. I pick up languages right away, but it took the rest of my class forever to pronounce those words right! They still say them wrong and we've been in that class since the first day of school. _________________ I'm a Librarian. If you want to suggest a book for any of the lists, PM me or Brandy! | Thanks for your ideas, so here we go... The vowels at first: A is spoken as the "u" in but (but we hold it longer). E... I´m not sure how to explain... I´ll come back for that, maybe you can help me? What does sound like E?I is very different... It´s spoken as your "e" O is pretty similar. More flat in German. U is like the "o" in to. Now we have the "Umlaute" (meaning they´re more than just one vowel, they have something "around" (um= around... lol), dunno why they came up with that name? They sound just normal.): ä (= ae if you don´t have it on your PC, should you ever find it this way in a German text, it´s the same as ä) is pronounced exactly like the "e" in EDWARD. ö(oe), ü(ue)... Difficult... I don´t see how I can say that now... But I´ll find something, trust me...V and W... right, they´re not spoken as you would think. V sounds like the "f" in forward but it´s pronounced "Vau" if you want to spell the letter itself (au= sounds as the "ow" in your now, so think "fow" if you want to say "V"...). Now our W: It´s soft somehow. Oh boy... I never thought about how different this is, but it´s fun. How would you say it sounds like, Rosaleen? At first I think German sounds "harder" than English or French. We have the words more seperated, not as flowing. I´ll do all the alphabet here with the time, that´s a good idea! If you have problems with homeworks or something... Just ask, you can write me an e-mail too (Honeysanna@gmx.de). I wished I could tell you those things, writing is so much harder... But it´s funny. Read German books! Really! I´m sure this helps a lot. I read Twilight and NewMoon aloud to practise. My English grades are so much better since I do that. I could help you get some good ones (*cough*books of cause...lol)!Okay, to say "bye" to you I begin showing you some of those words: Take "tschüss", "bis dann", "bis bald", "bis später", "auf Wiedersehen" or "tschau"(=ciao) ... Oh, and I do eat "Berliner", by the way, especially now at "Karneval"... They´re just everywhere... Hmmm... Have you already been in Germany, Felicia? (I´m only German, no % in me ) |

| For the E: I would describe it as sort of a "punched in the stomach" kind of sound, I guess. Try "eugh" but with no "g" sound. Or the "oo" part of "moo" (yes, as in the cow). Then sort of combine them. That's basically how I've heard my teacher say it. Maybe an "eh" like sound? For the W: The best I could come up with would be the way the "v" sounds in the English word Tivo (sp?). If you say Tivo kind of breathy and soft, then you'll get the German "w" sound. Does that sound somewhat correct, Sanna? I wish I could just say them, too! It's so much harder to type. _________________ I'm a Librarian. | Right, you say it! Good description! I found somewhat E-like in Twilight too: The two "ee"s in Renee!! Yes, and ö is as the "u" in burger, further or so. Some more words: Twilight: Actually it would be "Zwielicht" but for the book they took the name "Bis szum Morgengrauen" which would mean "till dawn"/"bite till dawn/ to dawn". NewMoon: Same here... "Bis s zur Mittagsstunde" (=noon). Right: Neumond. (eu= "oy" in Royality) Vampire is spelled V a m p i r simply. Werewolf is very near too: W e r w o l f. I´ll see how to explain pronounciations again... See you! Um... Bis später... _________________ Yes! Carlisle House!

| Cool! Some new words...: To bite: Beißen [remember: ei= spoken like "I", ß= a sharper spoken "s"] Soulmate: Seelenverwandter (okay, difficult word, but we´ll come to such later... As to the times) I: Ich [i like the "ea" in teacher, ch= a little like shoot, but softer (help?)] You: Du [sounds assame but first letter is different... lol] He, she, it: Er, sie, es We: Wir [a little like "wierd" without d] You: Sie (it´s typed tall) They: sie Okay, we have an extra forum for German class, so I´ll make different threads for different issues there... See you! Ah, sorry: Auf Wiedersehen... _________________ Yes! Carlisle House!
