PostSubject: A Students Learning Experiance.   Wed May 06, 2009 10:15 am

This is my learning experience, and I asked Tsuki if i could post this lesson that learned... and she said that I was more than able to! So please don't kill me!

I am studying for this huge test and I was studying the math portion of this test... I was taking the pretest in the book and I came to this one problem and I could not for the life of me work this one out... Now, like most people, I'm really bad at math. In fact, I hate math. I was asking everyone how to do the problem and a lot of people tried to help... and they had most of the process right... but for some reason... not the right answer...

So I bring to you... my math learning experiance...

About Order Of Operation

To find the value of an expression follow these rules in order!

1. Find the value of the numbers within the parentheses.

2. Find the value of any power and any sqaure root.

3. Multiply and divide terms from left to right.

4. Add or subtract terms.

So Now The Problem and Solution!!!

12+5(8-6)^3 ÷√4

First find the value within the parentheses.

(8-6) 8-6=2

The problem now becomes: 12+5(2)^3÷√4

Next find the value of the power.

(2)^3= 2x2x2=8 (2x2=4x2=8 ) √4=2

The problem now becomes: 12+5(8 )÷2

Multiply!

5x8=40

The problem now becomes: 12+40÷2

Divide!

40÷2=20

The problem now becomes: 12+20

Add!!!

12+20=32

Answer: 32

I hope that this was of help for all of you!!!

Ah! I love order of operation problems. We had tons of really long and complicated ones at the beginning of Advanced Math when we were doing review.
