| Okay, so I'm kind of a lame teacher for this class (because no one has told me anything they want to learn, and I have no idea how to help other than critiquing once in a while) but I figured I could at least post a lesson containing some basic stuff. Today we'll be learning how to make this.SO! Here we go: | Quote: | Tutorial name: the basic signature Made in: Photoplus 6 Made for: All Programs Category: Signatures Images used: jim pics this Other: Enjoy! |
OKAY! So step one! Please don't make the same banner I did. Try it once with my images, then find your own. I'd love to see your results, though.
So, first I took this image of Jim and pasted it onto a new canvas (size 500 by 200). Position it on one side of your canvas, so that all of Jim's face is showing. Then, add this image into the mix (ctrl L is the shortcut for pasting as a new layer). Position it how you like, on the opposite side of the canvas, and erase any parts that cover Jim in the other picture. Try to make the coloring match in as many places as possible. You should have something like this now!
Now, step two! coloring! Go to Layers >> merge all layers. Then, Image >> Adjust >> Hue/Saturation/Lightness. These settings you can really play around with until you think your images look good, but mine were:
| Quote: | Hue: 0 Saturation: 114 Lightness: -13 |
Now, for the fill layers! I usually end up using a lot of these. They're an addiction.
Go to your color tab and double click the little box, choosing a medium grey. Then, form a new layer and fill it (the little paint bucket) with that color. Set the layer to darken. Lower the opacity to 80%
Now, make another layer and fill it with #90000D, or any dark red really. Set it to screen, opacity 17%. You can really get creative with this step, substituting pretty much any color in for red. Since this is supposed to be basic, I'll cap it at two fill layers.
STEP THREE! Texturize!
Paste this as a new canvas (ctrl v or Edit >> paste >> as new image). Go to image >> image size and change the measurement to percent, then the numbers to fifty. Copy the image again (Edit >> copy) and paste it as a new layer onto your signature. Set the layer to screen and place it where you like. You should now have something similar to this.
ZOMG STEP FOUR! Textify!
Using a simple font (mine was georgia) and probably sticking to one short line of text, select a color from your image using the syringe tool, then make a new text layer. If it's the wrong size, double click the layer to change it. Move the text wherever you want, though i happen to think right in the middle of that light texture is a pretty good place. I used some lyrics from a song by the Strokes (What Ever Happened)

and, VOILA! You have a signature! So, maybe it wasn't that basic, but isn't it prettyful? I'd love to see your results! If you have any questions, feel free to reply asking.

| That's really good, Dash! Hopefully I've managed to give you some basic understanding of fill layers/layer modes/light textures! |
