HEY, SORRY YOU CAN'T SEE ANYTHING. The admins are crazy people and decided it would be nice to revamp the site. You can still use the chatbox if you want, but I recommend coming back in a few days. Oh, and anonymous? You still fail.

PostSubject: OPEN DISSCUSSION: the science of vampires & their venom   Sat Nov 29, 2008 12:03 am

Discussion:
In Twilight, Alice discusses the venom in their mouth that can paralyze and change a victim.
In Breaking Dawn, Bella has to continually change her contacts because of the venom in her eyes.
Edward (in the preview of Midnight Sun) feels the rush of venom in his mouth with Bella's scent. Wouldn't there at least be a few drops in his saliva when they kiss?
Now...you all realize Bella and Edward procreated. They've kissed, made love, all that good lovely stuff that lovers do.
Well then...how is it that Bella wasn't changed by those exchange of liquids?

I think its becuase you need to have an open wound for the venom to be transphered into the blood thus starting the change. Skin can repel it so Bella wouldnt have been changed unless she had a cut or something.

Okay...not to get too far into the ick factor here...someone edit it if it is...but...
Vampires....made like DIAMOND...hardest substance known to man... It's not all that uncommon for small tears to occur in..places...even during normal...intense romantic encounters. So with Edward being a vamp and all diamond-y...I would have seen bella easily being changed through that as well.

Well, when all the...lovey-dovey stuff happens in the fourth book, Bella only get bruises. And Edward bites some pillows, for reasons I don't understand...But whatever, you don't get to the blood through bruises, and therefore, she can't become a vampire through that method.

No, I find it hard to believe that there would be any venom involved when Bella and Edward kiss. I think it's the same as with snakes, where the venom is connected with the teeth - the victim would only be infected by a bite.

I tend to look at it this way: Twilight fails a logic. I realize that I will get flamed for saying this, but it's true. Ms. Meyer is breaking her own rules, and she obviously refuses to take the only way out that she can now (saying that the 'vampires' are magical) and is digging herself into a deep hole. The plus side? The 'vampires' are apparently very good in bed, despite the fact that Bella could not have been comfortable (seriously, it would be like getting pelted with rocks).

In short, it's magic

Okay, thats a very good point; for the sex part at least. But the venom wouldn't have affected her unless she had an open sore in her mouth/bowels. there are actually people in the real world he drink Snake Venom with no adverse effects.

Quote:
There is a difference between organisms that are "venomous" and those that are "poisonous", two commonly confused terms applied to plant and animal life. Venomous, as stated above, refers to animals that inject venom into their prey when hunting or as a self-defense mechanism. Poisonous, on the other hand, describes plants or animals that are harmful when consumed or touched. One species of bird, the hooded pitohui, although not venomous, is poisonous, secreting a neurotoxin onto its skin and feathers. The slow loris, a primate, blurs the boundary between poisonous and venomous; it has poison-secreting patches on the inside of its elbows which it is believed to smear on its young to prevent them from being eaten. However, it will also lick these patches, giving it a venomous bite.

I'm not bashing. It's the only explanation I could come up with. Just because I dislike a series, that doesn't mean I can't join a fansite and try to make sense of it without bashing.

I realize that. Of course, you seem to be bashing me a bit, if mocking anything or anyone at all is bashing, which you seem to think it is. I'm just in it for the lulz, and that doesn't necessarily mean that I'm bashing.

Moodz. Back off. There is no bashing being done in this thread. I actually think an apology is needed...if you don't apologize to her, I'll apologize for you. Where was I_like_tea bashing? She was stating why she thought there would not be venom in all liquids: because SM has holes in her story like Swiss cheese. That's not bashing.

No prob...I'm sorry for how Moodz is acting. (I told you I'd apologize for you, Moodz. -.-')

I agree with your opinion here, Tea. If SM had really sewn this all together well, we wouldn't have to have threads like these. She simply has holes in her writing.
